Iowa Audubon’s Pelican Gala celebrates the fall migration of thousands of American White Pelicans. It is hosted at the beautiful Jester Park Lodge, with a huge viewing deck that overlooks Saylorville Reservoir and the pelicans, all just north of Des Moines

The evening typically begins outdoors with the camaraderie of other birders, spotting scopes for viewing pelicans, and an expanded spread of Hors d'oeurves with beverages. Attendees then move indoors to enjoy homemade desserts and a featured speaker.

Al Batt of Hartland, MN, is a writer, speaker, storyteller and humorist. He is a nature and humor columnist for many newspapers, does regular radio programs about nature, writes for national syndicated cartoon strips and has written for movies and jokes for a former President of the United States. Al contributed to the book Minnesota Bird Watching and the Chicken Soup for the Soul series. He was named birder of the year by Wildbird magazine and received the Ed Franey Conservation Medal Award from the Minnesota Izaak Walton League. His mother thinks he is special.

There will be a silent auction of many beautiful items of bird and nature interest.

The Pelican Gala is more than a wonderful evening with birds and friends. It is also Iowa Audubon’s most important fundraiser of the year. Your attendance, and participation in the Silent Auction, will allow Iowa Audubon to continue its bird conservation work. The price of the Gala is $60 per person or $100 per couple, and this includes an IowaAudubon membership. For everyone interested in birds and habitat, this will be a wonderful evening to enjoy the camaraderie of other birders, the spectacular migration of Pelicans and the opportunity to support birds and habitat in Iowa. All proceeds will go toward Audubon Iowa's Important Bird Areas program, and other efforts in Iowa.

All Gala proceeds go to work for Audubon's bird conservation programs in Iowa.
