Please join us by participating in the following special activities this fall:

December-March: Bald Eagle Appreciation Day (BEAD) events at various locations around Iowa.

Iowa has one of the largest wintering populations of Bald Eagles of any state in the US other than Alaska. The PDF flyer below lists the largest or most well-known of these great winter wildlife viewing events. All offer the chances for your entire family to get close-up looks at America’s majestic national bird through binoculars and spotting scopes, with assistance from DNR staff and volunteers from local Audubon chapters or bird clubs. Some events also feature indoor presentations about Bald Eagles and other birds of prey, live bird demonstrations and information booths or programs about birds or nature in general.  BEAD Flyer

February 17-20: 2011:Great Backyard Bird County (GBBC)

The Great Backyard Bird Count is an annual four-day event that engages bird watchers of all ages in counting birds to create a real-time snapshot of where the birds are across the continent. Anyone can participate, from beginning bird watchers to experts. It takes as little as 15 minutes on one day, or you can count for as long as you like each day of the event. It’s free, fun, and easy, and it helps the birds. Plus, you can count the birds in your backyard, a nearby park, wildlife area or any place you choose.
