County: Black Hawk Directions: This nature trail runs for 52 miles between the towns of Evansdale and Hiawatha through 3 counties along an abandoned railroad right of way and can be accessed via highways and gravel roads all along the trail. Ornithological Significance: Bald Eagles have nested along the trail along the Cedar River for the last 8 years and have fledged many young. Also found along the trail are Grasshopper Sparrow, Bell's Vireo, Lark Sparrow and during migration, lots of Broad-winged Hawks following the Cedar River both north in the spring and south in the fall.
